Is accountancy the name for a major?

I would like to clarify the difference between Accounting and Accountancy. How should I call the major dealing with accounting, auditing and financial statements? Because I understand that Accounting is one part of the Accountancy. Am I right?

It depends on geographical location. In the UK, Accountancy simply means accounting as you refer to in the US. It can also mean the umbrella of accounting functions – accounting, bookkeeping, and auditing. It’s all very similar and some overlaps. If you’re considering choosing a major, I suggest reading the major course requirements to get a better idea of what exactly the curriculum, and each class, entails.
