    1) This is a bit complex question to answer coming under FOREX market. But in simple terms it is as follows.
Any Foreign Currency has a value against a Local currency at the exchange.
This exchange value (Exchange rate) is decided on the demand & supply theory. If the demand for USD (US dollars) in your country is bigger than the supply the EX Rate of INR (Indian Rupees) would go up. Then the INR said to be depreciated. Similarly, when the USD is more available (supply) than the requirement (demand) the EX Rate would go down & the INR said to be appreciated.
This applies to all the other currencies as well.

    2) Gold price is decided on the same theory in the international market and in the local market accordingly, with the consideration of the Exchange Rate too.
At the valuation, Karatage is taken into account as the key factor.
