What is the difference in meaning between backorder, back-order, and back order and the spellings? Are they all correct?

One of our workers wrote a sentence “The Threshold Bible Study of St. Matthew’s gospel is back ordered until mid-November. However, I received a notice that says the series is “back-ordered.” I also received a note online that states the series is on “backorder.” Now which is the correct spelling as I must now write this in the bulletin.

I believe back order is correct when saying “This item is on back order”, but if you’re using it as a verb, it would be “back-ordered”. Just a guess, not a grammar guru.
