The idea of milk production was created when people moved out of the rural areas and into the more populated cities where they could no longer easily keep livestock. Farmers saw a need to provide milk to the city folk and at the same time provide extra income for themselves. Over the years when the demand for milk increased the farmer went from milking the cows by hand to the use of electric milkers, gradually the process of homogenizing milk (which is the process of separating the fat for use in butter, and heating the rest at a temperature that will destroy any bacteria) came about. After that you will have to look up the rest. Check with the county extension agents, or milk processing companies.
