what are dividends according to the division of shares?

Well I don’t quite understand what this sentence is saying:
“If, and only if, there is anything left at the end of the year, the general shareholders meeting may decide to pay dividends according to the division of shares.”

If there is net income left over after all expenses, and the firm feels it best to disburse earnings rather than reinvest in the company, a dividend will be paid for each outstanding shares.

The “according to the division of shares” refers to the allotment of dividends. For example, if XOM pays a quarterly dividend of $0.44, that amount will be paid to investors for each share they own. If you own 100 shares, your total dividend payout is $44.00.
