Accord European Relatif au Transport International du Merchandis Dangereuses par Route. European agreement on International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road. Compiled by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE), it stipulates common rules for the movement of dangerous goods by road, within and between the EU countries. ADR's method of determining hazards and classifying materials is very similar to the DOT hazard code (which too is based on the UN Recommendations) of the US.
