Definition
National voluntary alliance created in 1955 after the merger of the American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations. The federation is composed of 56 national and international trade unions. The main purpose of AFL-CIO is to advocate for working union members to ensure that the companies are providing fair compensation packages and giving them the social justice they deserve in the workplace.
