American customer satisfaction index

Definition

Relatively new (released in October 1994) economic indicator that measures the satisfaction of the US household customers with the quality of goods and services (both local and imported) available to them. It divides goods and services into seven segments: (1) finance and insurance, (2) manufacturing durables, (3) manufacturing nondurables, (4) public administration and government, (5) retail, (6) services, and (7) communications, transportation, and utilities.
