Baltic indices
Definition
Summaries of ocean freight data for dry (such as coal, grains, iron ore) and wet (such as crude oil and petroleum) bulk cargo and the assessment of the future trend of freight rates, collected and published by the London's Baltic exchange. The major indices are (1) The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) comprised of Baltic Capesize Index, Baltic Panamax Index, and Baltic Handymax Index, and (2) The Baltic International Tanker Routes (reporting on 14 international oil routes) comprised of Baltic Dirty Tanker Index (BDTI) and Baltic Clean Tanker Index.
