Bear Stearns
Definition
Former global investment bank based in New York City which collapsed in 2008 during the subprime mortgage crisis. It's assets were subsequently purchased at a fire sale discount of $10 a share by JP Morgan Chase. The company's collapse preceded and contributed to the global financial crisis of 2008-2009.
