Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI)
Definition
A coalition of financial institutions certified by the U.S Treasury Department to provide credit and community development assistance to economically challenged communities in the U.S. CDFIs, which number over 1000 as of December 2010, are modeled after the Community Development Corporations (CDC) that were launched under the 1960's "War on Poverty".
