European Coal and Steel Community

Definition

Organization in charge of managing coal, iron and steel production in several European countries. With the Treaty of Paris in 1951, the countries of Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, West Germany, and France all established a common market to exchange these commodities. The European Coal and Steel Community officially merged with the European Community in 2002.
