FEMA declaration process
Definition
The procedure used to obtain assistance through the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency. When a state experiences a catastrophe such as an earthquake or a flood, the governor may ask the president to declare the event a disaster. This declaration makes the state eligible to receive a variety of relief efforts from the federal government.
