Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993

Definition

A federal law that requires large employers to provide unpaid leave to employees who are experiencing a serious illness or who need to care for a sick family member or new child. The law applies to businesses with 50 or more employees. Full-time employees are entitled to 12 weeks a year of unpaid, job-protected leave.
