Federal Insurance Office
Definition
A federal agency established in 2009 and housed within the Treasury Department to provide oversight and coordination of state insurance regulatory bodies. The FIO, which has no regulatory power, performs more of an advisory role and acts as a liaison between state insurance commissions and the federal government.
