Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)
Definition
A set of engineering standards that a vehicle must meet in order to be certified for import into the United States. The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards are maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an agency under the Executive Branch of the United States Federal Government.
