Information Mapping® (IMAP®)
Definition
Proprietary method of writing, organizing, and presenting business and technical texts. Based on the idea of 'information chunking' (see Miller's law) it divides the reading material into 'information blocks' of 2 to 7 sentences (or graphics or tables) each, and combines up to 9 such blocks into 'information maps' spread over up to 2 pages. A registered trademark of Information Mapping, Inc., of Boston (Massachusetts, USA), it is claimed to achieve 57 percent reduction in number of words in a document and 32 percent reduction in reading time.
Information Mapping® (IMAP®) is in the Business Communications & Presentations, Documentation & Recordkeeping and Information & Knowledge Management subjects.
