Institute for Supply Management (ISM)

Definition

A non-profit association whose focus is to aid the purchasing and supply management professions. Founded in 1913 as the New York Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM), it changed its name to the Institute for Supply Management in 2001 to recognize individuals whose roles have expanded. It is based in Tempe, Arizona and offers educational products and programs to individuals in these fields. It produces a monthly publication called "Inside Supply Management" which forecasts economic trends in the manufacturing and nonmanufacturing sectors.
