Institute of Petroleum (IP)
Definition
A UK-based professional organization dedicated to supporting the petroleum industry and industry professionals by developing and distributing scientific and technical knowledge, and also providing education and networking opportunities. In 2003 it merged with the Institute of Energy to form the Energy Institute, which has similar goals, but extends those to other energy forms such as nuclear and alternative energy. The IP designation still survives as a test method specification in the petroleum industry.
