James M. Buchanan Jr.

An economist and teacher who won the Nobel Prize for economics in 1986 with his public choice theory, which examined political decisions. He was born in Tennessee in 1919 and earned his PhD at the University of Chicago in 1948. Buchanan taught at several different universities.
