Nelson Index

Definition

An index that measures the complexity of refineries. It measures the complexity of refineries by awarding complexity factor to each component of the refinery, which is then totaled up to obtain the index. A higher index indicates a more complex refinery, which cost more to build as such refinery is able to refine low quality crude oil and at such produce better end-products than a less complex refinery.
