New York dollar
Definition
A conceptual version of the U.S. dollar based on the cost-of-living in New York City that compares wages, basic costs, housing costs, lifestyle costs, and taxes with the national average to determine its buying power for New York residents. Because prices are generally higher in New York City the value of a dollar is considerably less than it is in most other parts of the country.
