Definition
Price weighted (movement of stock prices are weighted equally, not according to market capitalization) index of 225 largest Japanese corporations listed on Tokyo stock exchange. Founded in 1949, it is composed of the shares of 'First section' (Japanese equivalent of Blue Chip) firms. Also called Nikkei index it is named after its administrator, Nikon Keizai Shimbun (Japan Financial Journal).
