Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA)
Definition
This federal law states that lenders must give borrowers a reasonable approximation of what costs they will incur before they get a loan. It forbids lenders from giving or getting kickbacks and certain fees for referrals to agents specializing in real estate settlements.
