accident and health combined ratio
Definition
The total ratio (compared to premiums earned) made up of the sum of the accident and health expense ratio plus the accident and health loss ratio. These two categories together represent all the significant business costs associated with the insurance business. Maintaining a low accident and health combined ratio relative to premiums earned increases the profitability of an insurance company.
