accident and health loss ratio
Definition
The ratio of losses incurred under accident and health insurance policies relative to the premiums collected. Total losses are calculated as amounts paid out in claims to insured parties as well as increases in the amount of funds that must be set aside in reserves to pay out potential future claims.
