acquit
Definition
To formally and legally set free a person charged with a crime, by a court's finding (judgment) of not guilty, usually for lack of evidence. There is normally no appeal against an acquittal, except in some jurisdictions where it can be challenged in certain circumstances. See also exculpate and exonerate.
