active redundancy
Definition
A process of monitoring performance throughout a defined system to remove the potential for a decline in service or quality. For example, active redundancy is used to continually monitor location within a global positioning system. In addition, it's used to monitor the level of power that flows through home circuitry, triggering an overload at the circuit breaker to prevent electrical shock and damaged wiring.
