alternate beneficiary
Definition
An individual who is named in a will in case the person who is the named beneficiary refuses or disclaims the inheritance. Also used in an insurance policy as a secondary or contingent beneficiary who will receive the insurance proceeds in the case that the primary beneficiary has died. More common in the area of real or personal property.
