apology
Definition
In a defamation (slander or libel) case, an apology is offered as a defense or in mitigation of damages. Usually it is accompanied by payment of compensation and/or (in case of unintentional defamation) an offer to make amends by publishing corrected version of the defamatory story and the apology.
