1. A scattered group of islands within the same body of water. The islands are considered part of a larger land mass. Places such as Hawaii and the Virgin Islands are considered to be archipelagos.
2. Electronic-trading firm acquired by the New York Stock Exchange in 2005. After the acquisition the NYSE went from a not-for-profit company to a publicly traded for-profit business.
