assay ton
Definition
Unit of mass used in mineralogy for the amount of a precious metal (such as gold or silver) or rare metal (such as uranium) in a tested (assayed) amount of ore. Despite its name, an assay ton equals only 33.667 grams in the UK and 29.167 grams in the US.
