automated commercial environment (ACE)
Definition
A computerized system developed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) to automate import and export processing. The system allows for faster communication between the CBP and the trading community and thus, decreases the amount of time taken to move goods across the border. Its information-sharing capabilities help to increase border security as different government agencies are able to monitor trading activity via reports generated by the system.
