bank run
Definition
Sudden and heavy cash withdrawals by depositors who have lost confidence in the viability of a bank, or expect the local economy to crash or slow down drastically. Unlike the depositors of years gone (who jammed the bank counters demanding their money) today's depositors quietly move out their funds via electronic transfers.
