Investment portfolio in which major part of an investment amount is spread over bonds with short and long maturities, and the remaining amount on bonds with immediate maturities. When drawn as a graph, its investment distribution traces a barbell-like curve-a bar with a slim middle but heavy ends. See also bell shaped curve portfolio and laddered portfolio.
