bargain renewal option
Definition
A clause in a lease agreement that allows the lessee to extend the term of the lease at a favorable rate. A bargain renewal option requires the lessee to treat the lease as a capital lease rather than an operating lease. For accounting purposes, a capital lease is treated as a capital expense rather than a rental expense.
