1.General: Clearly defined starting point (point of departure) from where implementation begins, improvement is judged, or comparison is made.
3.Surveying: Surveyed line (running east and west; the longitudes or meridians run north and south) from which the location of a building, geographical feature, or territorial and maritime zones, etc., are measured and referenced. Also called latitude.
