Definition

Process by which certain toxic substances (such as heavy metals and polychlorinated biphenyls) accumulate and keep on accumulating in living organisms, posing a threat to health, life, and to the environment. Also called bioconcentration, biological concentration, or biological magnification. See also bioaccumulant.
