buy-side analyst

Definition

An analyst who is employed by a firm that buys stocks for the company's own holdings - mutual funds, insurance companies, and pension funds, for example. A buy-side analyst's recommendations remain in-house for use by staff money managers and are not typically disseminated to investment community at large. Compare to Sell-Side Analyst.
