Definition
Wholly or partially owned subsidiary (located commonly in a tax haven) that plays its role as a bank only for the benefit of one legal entity (usually a firm) and its customers and suppliers. In addition to safe keeping of deposits, captive banks may also offer merchant banking, financing, and other services, usually in association with commercial banks.
