centre of vital interests
Definition
A method of determining the legal country of residence of an individual for income tax purposes. If an individual has homes in two countries, legal residence may be determined by the individual's centre of vital interests. The vital interests of an individual lie in the country where he maintains a business or has a family. If an individual has family homes and businesses in two countries, the country of residence is the one in which his personal and business interests are greater.
