Definition
In accounting, grouping of expenditure according to the accounting period it is presumed to benefit: (1) Current expenditure, which benefits current period, (2) Debt service, which primarily benefits previous periods but may also benefit present and future periods, (3) Capital expenditure, which benefits current and future periods.
