chlorinated organic compounds

Definition

Synthetic substances carbon, hydrogen, and chlorine atoms, such as chlorinated fluorocarbons (CFSs), chlorinated hydrocarbons (CHCs), and carbon tetrachloride. The presence of chlorine in these compounds makes them resistant to degradation by natural agents and they persist in environment for a long time after their release.
