chlorine dioxide (ClO2)
Definition
Very reactive and unstable gas that combines violently with organic materials and explodes in the presence of heat or sunlight. Used primarily in bleaching of cellulose based textiles (such as rayon), flour, and paper pulp, it is used also as a sterilant.
