Definition
In the United Kingdom, a legal process by which cash or property gained from unlawful acts may be officially forfeited to the state or remitted to a retailer financially harmed by the unlawful acts. In the United States, civil recovery refers to a process by which retailers can prosecute shoplifters in civil court.
