Definition

Generally-illegal provision in a contract under which a party (1) agrees to the jurisdiction of a certain court, (2) waives requirement of a notice of action, and/or (3) authorizes automatic (without trial) passing of an adverse judgment against itself in case of a breach or default. From Latin cognoscere, to recognize (an action or debt).
