Definition

Legal principle that an entity employing the services of an independent contractor is not liable for harm or injury caused by him or her if (1) it results from the improper manner in which the independent contractor performed his or her duty, (2) it is inconsistent with the work he or she was employed to perform, and (3) the entity could not reasonably have anticipated it.
