completely denatured alcohol (CDA)

Definition

Industrial ethyl alcohol (ethanol) made undrinkable by the addition of denaturants such as methanol and pyridine, usually with a blue dye used as a visual indicator of the additives. CDA is commonly exempt from excise duty levied on drinkable alcohol and is used as a solvent or fuel. See also specially denatured alcohol (SDA).
