Definition
The understanding by an individual of their rights as a consumer concerning available products and services being marketed and sold. The concept involves four categories including safety, choice, information, and the right to be heard. The first declaration of consumer rights was established in the US in 1962. Consumer activist Ralph Nader Is referred to as the father of the consumer movement.
