Definition
Close integration among buyers and vendors or the different units of an enterprise, created and sustained through application of standard technologies (such as electronic data interchange or EDI), streamlining of business processes (business process engineering), and effective use of business and technical information. Based on an initiative of US Department of Defense, it was originally called computer aided acquisition and logistic support.
